Hello, my name is Michael Wagganer and I will be using this blog for two main reasons: (1) To sharpen my formal fine arts analysis skills and (2) to share my thoughts on the formal qualities and trends of different artistic eras throughout history. Each day I'll be posting an analysis of a single work, both my initial impressions without guidance (comments before the vertical stroke "|") and what is "generally accepted" about a work (analysis after). The idea is to get to a point where I can offer insight of some value without guidance. In addition, the source of inspiration for many of the products I plan on producing will be historic. Understanding the formal qualities that separated the Greek orientalizing from the archaic periods should only crystallize my formal understanding of visual communication. I'm afraid much of what I will be posting will sound academic, but I am trying to make the transition to professional application, and everything will be in my own voice.
Any objective comments or questions are very welcomed. There's only so much I can be exposed to by reading texts and online articles. Thank you for your time!
